Donna is one of our volunteers who is not retired. She is employed as a nurse at the Pregnancy Help Center in Torrance and serves as an Ignatians West Volunteer at House of Yahweh.

House of Yahweh was established in 1982 to assist families in need and people who are homeless in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. The agency provides food, clothing, personal care products, housewares, and furniture as well as health service and  counseling to those in need. It also offers services to direct and guide a path to independence.

Donna gives her time at the Food Outreach program (food pantry) where qualified participants receive groceries until they are able to achieve stability with their family budget. Individual needs are supported through awareness of food allergies and home delivery service for the home-bound. There is also an emergency food service for families who have not yet applied for the weekly program. Food is distributed every week which results in a significant reduction in food costs for a family. These savings are applied to rent payments keeping families safe and sheltered at home.

Donna says she is amazed at the resources House of Yahweh offers and sees it as a place of welcome and refuge for all persons who enter their doors.
